Frequently Asked Questions

Baby sling

What are your safety guidelines?

Our advice for using the Wallaboo baby sling, in particular for babies under four months, is as follows:

-  Wallaboo baby slings are designed to be used for full term healthy babies. For babies under the care of a paediatrician , please seek advice before using.
-  Babies should be carried in slings in the same position they would be if you cradled them in your arms. Your baby should be carried at the carer’s chest height and no lower than the waist. Adjust the baby sling to fit the size of the carer and ensure the baby sling fits securely for the carer and the baby.
-  Baby’s face should be visible at all times and not covered by your body or by fabric.  Ensure babies face has plenty of ventilation.  Regularly check that the baby remains in the correct position.
 -  Be particularly vigilant when using a baby sling with a young baby or a baby with a heavy cold. Do not use the baby sling with an uncooperative child.
-  When you first use a baby sling please ask someone to help you so that you can practice putting  the sling on and taking it off etc.  Always check your baby sling to ensure no parts are worn or broken.
-  Take care not to let baby get too hot or cold when using the baby sling. Remember your body also creates warmth for the baby. Layered clothing for a baby is ideal so that layers can be added or removed depending on the environment and when moving from inside to outdoors.  Be aware that the thickness of the baby sling fabric can also affect the baby s temperature.
-  Always keep one hand free when using a baby sling to protect you and the baby should you suddenly need support.
-  Put an arm around your child when bending over.
-  Take care of your back.  As the baby grows, be aware of their weight. If baby gets too heavy swap to another transport option.
 -  Use common sense when choosing what activities to do while carrying your child.
